Loaded Restaurant-Style Burgers

Serves 4

For the caramelized onions:
  • 1 tbsp. butter
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, peeled and thinly chopped
  • 1 tsp. salt
For the burger:
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 4 tbsp. yellow mustard
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. black pepper
  • 8 slices American cheese
  • 4 burger buns
  • Lettuce
  • Sliced pickles
For the sauce:
  • ½ c. mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp. ketchup
  • 1 tsp. hot sauce
  • 2 tsp. sweet relish
  • ½ tsp. sugar
  • ½ tsp. apple cider vinegar

Instructions:
  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter with the olive oil. Add the onions, and sauté until golden brown. Season with salt, and set aside.
  2. Preheat a grill or large skillet over medium-high heat. Portion the ground beef into eight equal-sized patties, spread with yellow mustard, and season with salt and pepper. Cook for 5–6 minutes, flipping halfway through, or until cooked to desired doneness. Reduce heat to low, top with the cheese, and continue to cook until the cheese is melted.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sauce ingredients until combined.
  4. Spread the sauce on both sides of each burger bun. Add two patties to each bun, and top with onions, lettuce, pickle slices, and burger bun tops.
